BUCS
The voice of university sport…
British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national governing body for higher education sport in the UK. Its vision is to enhance the student experience in three key areas:

• Performance
• Competition
• Participation

To do this, BUCS works with student athletes, athletic union staff and elected officers as well as professional sporting staff, coaches and volunteers at its 157 member institutions. It offers a comprehensive, multi-sport competition structure and manages the development of services and facilities for participative, grass-roots sport and healthy campuses through to high-performance, elite athletes.

The BUCS sporting programme is available to the 2.3 million students across the UK. Over 100,000 students regularly compete in BUCS competitions, leagues and events. BUCS delivers 50 sports to these students and universities and organises 150 individual final or championship events each year. Over 4000 teams compete in BUCS team sports and competitions each year and the finale for many is the BUCS Championships

Team Performances: Despite the size of our institution, the past 5 years has seen BUCS teams enjoy league success on 44 occasions.
UoC has enjoyed Premiership level on 3 separate occasions in Football, Rugby & Hockey with our current Women’s Rugby & Football Team in the Premiership South. In the cups 2 back to back BUCS Trophy successes have been enjoyed by the Netball 1st team, and numerous teams have reached the latter stages of BUCS Cup competitions. In the same period outside of BUCS, over 25 teams have won SESSA & SUSC Cup competitions.

Individual Elite Performers: UoC proudly has supported a large number of elite performers during their studies. Over 90 students have represented UoC in a range of English University Representative Sports squads in the past 8 years. The Last 3 British University Games has seen saw 15 UoC students’ selected & compete in the winning English Universities Squad.

Club Committees
Each Sports Club has an elected President, secretary & treasurer; depending on the size of the Club there may be more positions. Committee members are required to attend training in September.

Taking on a Committee position is a privilege, will look good on your CV, will give you the opportunity to personally develop in a range of areas, and ultimately contribute to making the Club and Sport you are passionate about better. However you will need to be prepared to work hard, be committed and communicate with your members, the Sports Federation Executive and the SDM. Clubs will hold their Annual General Meetings in Semester 2 where the opportunity to run for these positions takes place.
