A Student Union society involves a collective of individuals who share the same interests.
Being in a society has a number of benefits as it’s a great way to make new friends; it provides you with personal development opportunities at the same time pursuing your interests whilst sharing them with others.
These can be divided into five categories.
These are usually course based societies. At present we have BAM (Business and Management) society for those doing business courses as well as a Media Production society. These societies feature people on similar courses providing them with extra curriculum activities.
These feature a collective group of people who share cultural similarities/beliefs or interests. At present we have several cultural societies such as the ACS the Afro-Caribbean Society and the Christian Union.
Students have many different hobbies such as stamp collecting or playing video games. You could even set up a society that reflects one of your hobbies.
A political society features a group of students who share the same political ideologies. You could form a Labour party or Conservative party society for example. Objectives could include political debates and promoting political parties. Key events could include election campaigning in a general or local council election.
These societies are more designed for people who share similar interests and these usually involve running events or trips, such as to a theme park.
