Capoeira began several hundred years ago as a means of survival for African slaves who had been taken to Brazil. Over the years it developed into a form of street fighting that was made illegal until the 1930s. Since then it has evolved further and been formalised into a dramatic combination of dance, acrobatics, interaction, music, culture and the martial arts.
Capoeira is open to everyone; you don't have to be spectacularly physically fit or flexible to begin with, but if you continue to train you will definitely notice improvements, as well as better balance, coordination, spatial awareness, rhythm, ect.
Classes are friendly, and compared to a lot of other martial arts quite informal, but be prepared to do some exercise! Wear something comfortable that you can move freely in, wear trainers or go bare foot, and bring some water.
Your first session is free so you can see if it suits you!
